Back in 2011 I bought my first Empire magazine, which focused on their 500 5-star rated movies. Reading through its pages, I was amazed at how little I understood about the history of film. There were films I had seen that I was unsurprised to see included, there were films I had not seen but that I understood to be great classics and then there were films that I hadn't even heard of!

At the end of January I decided to blog my way through watching the entire list in alphabetical order. You can still view my original blog on Blogger.

By the end of 2011 I had watched and reviewed 131 films, and had started to review other films that I was watching away from the list. By the end of 2012, when my initial interest started to wane, I had reviewed over 200. Between 2012 and 2015 I underwent some major changes in my life: I bought a "project" house, which meant I was spending time on plumbing, rewiring and general renovations. No longer could I return from work to watch films in the safety of my bedroom at my parent's house.

By the time I moved into my house in December 2012 I found myself consuming media in shorter formats and began devouring TV series after TV series. To date, I have polished off the huge American blockbusters of Lost, Dexter, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and House of Cards, along with British series such as Hustle, My Family and Skins. I've also recently started on Bates Motel.

I still continue to watch films on a regular basis, and am still gradually making my way through the 500 films, albeit far slower than before. During the redesign of my website in 2015, I decided to update and move many of my reviews from my blog. This subdomain is now capable of scaling into a fully fledged movie database, should I have the time or inclination to do so. If anyone would like to assist in the addition of data, please feel free to get in contact using the main website ( or through the usual social media channels.
